I can’t think of one thing I would have changed about the chicken I got from here.  The crust was crunchy,  crumbly, and tasted like golden nuggets (perfectly seasoned…and I mean PERFECTLY)…and this is AFTER a 30 minute drive home.  The meat was tender and juicy – even the breast.  And most of all, the flavor went through the whole piece of chicken, not just skin deep.  Everyone has their definition of what good fried chicken is.  This place has defined mine.  Haven’t had better chicken at any restaurant or even at anybody’s table other than my grandmother’s.  They got everything about it right. – Mr. H.

Reviews of ‘Mrs. White’s Golden Rule Cafe’

Mrs. White’s Golden Rule Cafe is great.  Her Southern Fried Chicken and Catfish is wonderful.  Her Black-eyed Peas and Collard Greens and Red Beans are all equally good.  I have never had a bad meal there and I have been at least 10 times.  Most recently we finished with a piece of Mrs. White’s Peach Cobbler and I have to apologize to my Mom and other-in-law, it was the best I have had. – skyingking

If the menu written on the wall doesn’t make you go “hmmm…” the service will. Don’t even think about sending food back to the kitchen – it may be the last thing you do. The good news is you won’t have to. Their food is amazing and I can promise you will not find a better homemade meal anywhere around. – ZJ

We were visiting Phoenix and friends took us to Mrs. White’s. The food was deilcious, but the people working there were terrific! Our waitress had us in stitches most of the time. The menu is written all over the walls: I highly recommend the Smothered Chicken. It was enough for two meals. Of course, you must have the Peach Cobbler for dessert, it is made by Mrs. White, and when it’s gone, it’s gone. We took ours to go, and were told to “leave the ice cream in the freezer, this cobbler doesn’t need it.” – K. White

Soul Food I’ve never been much for soul food, and the size and condition of this place didn’t make me any more excited but i was shocked by how excellent their food was. Never judge a book by it’s cover the chicken and cabbage is to die for and their sweet tea is delicious. Well worth the price. – TellTaleHeart

The only thing better than sitting down and enjoying some golden brown southern fried chicken, mouth watering, smothered chicken or a pork chop dinner at Mrs. White’s Golden Rule Café, is the amazing story of how one of Arizona’s longest operated African American businesses came to be.  The story of how a single African American woman with 4 young children managed to acquire a business in the early 60’s prior to the passing of the Civil Rights Bill and Voting Rights Act, when African American were struggling just to make ends meet, is remarkable. – Click Here to Read More
